Sketching the human body has always been part and parcel of art making, and here we find examples of it as finished creations by Isabel Diaz. In a suite of works, the body is unmistakable in its classical proportions, but here it is presented in erotic entanglements, if not in direct sexual tension, with other bodies. Active, alert, and athletic, the female bodies break away from the traditional depiction of the languid, recumbent nude. They are possessed of agency, decisive in their postures and, with one folding her arms across her chest, willfully defiant. These works are a contemporary take on how a woman body is represented and perceived.
