Jack Salud’s art is about the subjects as much as about the spaces in between. His one dimensional representation of people counteracts the realism which the contemporary eye is accustomed to. The somewhat primitive style -is the result of the influence of Filipino modernists. He uses a contrasting color palette in a single piece of work, his almost pointillist use of dots results in highly polychromatic compositions. His works often have a fragile childlike quality to them. This child like imagery and the power of the naive in bringing out the life out of mundane groups of people. A children’s book kind of story-telling via a form of optical painting feature prominently in his oeuvre.
