The male torso as interpreted by Chilean sculptor Raul Valdivieso often combines archaic Roman form with Renaissance naturalism and contemporary visual interventions such as repetitive, wavy contours cum slashes. The slashes have a machine-like finish and precision, giving a new and mysterious sense of purpose to the voluminous classicized human torso. While most of his sculptural works are black, this terracotta piece has a light ochre color.
