ABOUT THE WORK

Very rarely does one come across the works of classical masters. These pieces have come to be recognized as vignettes of the lost past — mostly because of the fact that some of these works had preceded the technological advancements of photography, more so in the Philippines. Highly regarded, these classical works have been greatly acclaimed and appreciated for their technicality and longevity. Capturing idyllic prewar Philippine culture and scenery, the works of Teodoro Buenaventura, Juan Luna, and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, among others, have come to be recognized as some of the most iconic pieces of Filipino art. As in this work by Teodoro Buenaventura,we are transported back to a rustic morsel of the turn of the century — a view of lush greenery and the beauty of the simplicities of life. A reminder of sorts.
