In this work, Dawn III (Self Portrait), by Sarah Geneblazo, a figure dominates the pictorial space in her long white dress. Unbound, her hair covers her face, cascading on the front of her dress. A self-portrait, the painting resists disclosure or, rather, facial recognition, allowing the viewer to simply focus on her action: gathering, taking stock, putting something on a white bag. Whatever the nature and the reason of the action remains ambiguous. Even the background, composed of patches of earthly tones, doesn’t offer the viewer a specific locus by which to situate her. Despite the mystery of her action and the place, the viewer gets the sense that the figure is involved with a routine that is markedly important to her, a devotion to the sacredness of everyday life
