Florencio Concepcion’s abstract art already went into fruition in the two decades when modernism in Philippine art was blossoming. His art is one of evolution and transformation: from impressionistic scenes at the onset of his career, he has adapted the abstract expressionist mode.
The artist believes that his works are a result of his feelings and creativity; the energy that radiates from his boldly colored canvas is that of serenity, a reflection of his contentment as an artist. Concepcion’s colors compliment his characteristic evocation of spatial depth through the texture of his medium, being in a deep sense of harmony or tonal contrast which he describes as inspired by his keen appreciation of music. Its meaning is released not by verbal explanation but by the face-to-face encounter with the actual surface, actual size, and texture.
