ABOUT THE WORK

Contemporary artist Ayka Go seeks to bring to life the whimsical characters from her imagination, as detailed in her diary entries and drawings, aiming to reconnect with her younger self and world. She visualizes and represents these characters through paintings and intricate paper sculptures, using her art to bridge the past and present.

Go's creative process is multifaceted and deeply personal, involving several stages: reading, interpreting, reproducing, and recreating her diary pages. She begins by carefully selecting and reading through her diary, choosing the entries that resonate with her vision. These pages are then scanned and reproduced, allowing her to work directly with the images and text from her past.
The act of folding these reproduced pages is a crucial part of her process. By folding the pages, Go manages to conceal and reveal their contents simultaneously, creating a sense of mystery and inviting viewers to engage with the artwork on multiple levels. This technique transforms the diary from a private document into a tangible object of art, where the personal narrative is abstracted and given new life.
