ABOUT THE WORK

The next largest plate was made during the Sung Dynasty (960-1279 AD) and is in the shape of a large shallow bowl with a molded edge and an incised design of scrolls with foliate terminals. The decorations are hardly visible because of the thick glaze applied when firing. The bottom of the plate is decorated with a biscuit relief with a three-clawed dragon floating amidst clouds. The design has been left unglazed and contrasts greatly with the rest of the piece. -Martin I. Tinio, Jr.
