ABOUT THE WORK

Known for incorporating mirrors into his works, making the painting as essentially a reflective surface of the real, Arturo Sanchez exemplifies this technique with “Here Comes Hope for the Last Light of Day”. This work carries the trope further by making the mirror also as a ground of paint: circular portraits of people, among other odds and ends, floating against a black, catastrophic whirlwind that obliterates everything in its path. These constitute the pinpoints of “hope” at the face of an inevitable doom, vestiges of the living that persist collectively as an enduring record of humanity.
