ABOUT THE WORK

Rodel Tapaya is most notable for his allegorical oeuvres laden with symbols and references from folk, myths, and legends. Just as well, his other abstract works similar to this 2018 painting showcases his talent in a unique light. Set in a modern world, a breath of fresh air from most of Tapaya’s iconic folk-inspired settings, a woman sits under the shadow of an umbrella, washing her laundry, unaware of the space she is in. Occupied with her mundane chore, she is oblivious to the fact that beyond her box is a surreal universe absent of perceptible concepts.
