Painted in 1954, this work by Federico Aguilar Alcuaz hews closely to a realist interpretation of the world, with the balance of the rather smooth terrain and the placid body of water. While this is so, there are passages in the painting that are more suggestive than literal, such as the atmosphere and the distant mountain, which is evoked as a blot of blue. It has a certain calm of expression, which approximates our experience of languid nature.
