ABOUT THE WORK

Diosdado Lorenzo’s oeuvre is riddled with works that boast of the Philippines’ rustic splendor. The renowned impressionist has time and again captured the lush, natural beauty of the Philippines and the pulchritude of its people with his distinct modernist touch. Lorenzo’s potent use of yellow pervades this very work from 1966, coalescing with the cool blues and earthy browns to concoct a very humble, nostalgic air. Done in thick impasto strokes, Lorenzo captures the populace and livestock of the scene in superb detail, elegantly completing the composition. A pioneering modernist, Diosdado was among the Thirteen Moderns of Philippine Art.
