Emerging to be as one of the more notable midcareer portraitists, Martin Honasan depicts two faces in loose, free-flowing lines, which thicken only at places that need more elaboration of detail: the eyes and the mouth. One may argue that the faces are just two sides of a single person at different times: the one looking at the viewer has a solemn, beseeching expression, while the one in side profile reveals an unimpeachable honesty and dignity. The portrait is an affirmation of the essential unknowability of the human soul.
