Provenance Acquired directly from the artist by Y & R Philippines
Y&R (originally Young & Rubicam) was founded in 1923 in Philadelphia and evolved to be a marketing and communications company specializing in advertising, digital and social media, sales promotion, direct marketing and brand identity consulting. It is one of the world's largest advertising agencies. It is a member of WPP, the largest advertising group in the world. After their establishment in the Philippines, the company acquired artworks from artists to hang in its company headquarters. These artworks offered are among them. A blackish sun thrusts its way up towards the focal heart of the painting, above, horizontal waves of white “silence” make their way across a planetary system of little black spheres. The viewer finds in her psychedelic late 1960s paintings a transformation by the artist into a nearly “cosmic” realm of creation. A white sun, Saguil is completely absorbed in her work, seemingly paying little attention to the outside world.
Just as the rigid certainties of the Newtonian cosmos seemed to melt away into fluidity under Einstein’s gaze, so does Saguil’s vision dissolved the material surfaces of its world.
Amid the alternative culture of sixties Paris, she was carrying on the ancient struggle between spirit and matter, between invention and finished expression.
