This relleve of the Crucifixion is carved from a single plank of balayong or tindalo wood and shows Christ nailed to the Cross with the grieving Mater Dolorosa and St. John the Evangelist at the foot of the Cross. The carving is rather primitive in form, but the artist managed to convey the suffering of Christ on the Cross and the grief of his Mother and cousin, St. John. At the foot of the Cross is a skull, an allusion to Golgotha, “The Place of Skulls”, the hill where Christ was crucified.
