This pair of ivory hands, now mounted on a kamagong base, originally belonged to a statue of an unidentified male saint that was 60 cm tall. The right hand holds a ring into which a silver object, probably a quill pen, was placed. If so, then the image that the hands belonged to must have been that of St. John the Evangelist, one of the most popular saints venerated during the Spanish Colonial Period.
